This Half Term

Project: Stand and Deliver!

This half term we will be learning to:
  • use primary sources to find out about transport through the ages
  • finding out about what highway men were and what they did
  • comparing transport today and in the past

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:

Writing

This half term we will be learning to:
  •  Re-tell the story of The Highway Rat
  •  Write a moral tale
  • Use full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks  and finger spaces in our writing.
  • Plan our writing and checking it makes sense.
  • Increase the legibility, consistency and quality of their handwriting.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Read  the story and watch the film of The Highway Rat
  • Create a 'Wanted Poster' and show in school
  • Look at the use of rhyming words in the story. Can you come with anymore rhyming words
  • Act out the story 

Maths

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Count to 20 both forwards and backwards from any given number.
  • Read numbers in numerals and words. 
  • Use the vocabulary of 'more than', 'less than' and 'equal to'. 
  • Read, write and interpret mathematical statements.
  • Solve simple one step addition and subtraction problems. 
  • Look at different measures in height, length, weight and volume.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Play maths related games e.g snakes and ladders or bingo.
  • Practise KIRFS.
  • Practise writing numbers in words and numerals.
  • Practice using a ruler 
  • Practice weighing out ingredients using when cooking

Science

This half term we will be learning :
  • About everyday materials and their uses.
  • How to compare and group different materials
  • How to describe different properties of everyday materials 

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Walk in your local environment looking to see if you can find different materials
  • ​Talk to the children about what different materials are used at home.
  • Discuss the different properties of everyday materials.

Computing

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Use Purple Mash and login.
  • Use the touch pad by creating a picture using paint projects and searching Purple Mash.
  • Save, open, exit and logoff programs. 
  • Sort and Group using a Purple Mash Program
  • Creating our own algorithms 
To support your child at home you could:
  • Practise how to login and logoff.
  • Use a touch pad on a computer to create a picture using paint projects.
  • Complete a variety of the '2do' activities. 

Art and Design

This half term we will be learning to:
  • ​Design and make a method of transport using wheels and axels

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Look at different styles of transport to see how they are different and how they work.

Music

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Use percussion instruments

  • ​Listening to different types of music and listening to hear what different instruments are being used.
PSHE
This half term we will be looking at our goals and dreams.
We are very excited to be using our new PSHE scheme called jigsaw, which will see us have a special guest during our PSHE lesson, Jigsaw Jack.

This half term in PE  we will be participating in Netball. We will be learning to take part in a team game and working in a team. Through this we will develop key skills like throwing and catching

  • Encourage your child to be physically active for at least half an hour a day.
  • Encourage your child to practise moves and balances at home,
