Our Learning This Half Term

Welcome to Spring 1 Half Term! This half term we will be learning all about castles and fairy tales.  We will be learning all about the different parts of castles and why they exist. Finally, we will learn about the adventures of The Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

This term we will be learning to: 
- Confidently speak to others about our needs, wants, interests and opinions. 
-Describe ones self in positive terms and be able to talk about our abilities.
-Begin to talk about ones own ideas in a small group.​

Communication, Language and Literacy
This half term we will be learning to:
- Re-tell the story of The Three Little Pigs and anticipate key events.
-Re-tell the story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears and anticipate key events.
-Sequence the stories
-Write key sentences of each story using phonemes learnt in our phonics sessions.
-Ensure we can all write and recognise our names.

- Learning the days of the week.
-Deciphering the difference between daytime and night-time activities.
-Understanding zero.
-Learning the composition of numerals 4 and 5.

T
his half term we will be learning to:​
- Learning about different New Year Celebrations around the world, including Chinese New Year, Persian New Year and Holi.
- Looking at similarities, differences, patterns and change.

This half term we will be learning to:
- Construct with a purpose in mind, using a variety of resources e.g. a crown.
-Select tools and techniques needed to shape, assemble and join materials to make castles.
-Use various construction materials.

This half term we will be learning to:
 - Persevere to overcome challenges.
- Set a goal and work towards it.
- Use kind words to encourage others.
- Think about what we want to be when we grow older.

- Encourage children to explore and talk about what they are learning, valuing their ideas and ways of doing things.
- Offer help with activities when asked but not before.
-Recognising and enjoying children’s success with them to help them feel confident.

- Practice writing your name on paper, in sand, in the bath bubbles or even in mud!
- Practice reading and writing the sounds learnt in phonics- see google classroom for more information.
- Read with your child and question events characters and setting.​

- Have countdowns for significant events in your household e.g. birthdays.
-Compare snack sizes using key vocabulary.
-Read “I Spy Numbers” by Jean Marzello and “The Ugly Five” by Julia Donaldson.
- Play Numbots
- Use a small box and ask your child to hunt items e.g. the most items, the prettiest leaf, the smallest pebble, the largest item etc.

- Discuss changes we are seeing with the weather and make predictions about what might happen next.
