This week we have been out to the allotment we have on school grounds. Helped by our lovely volunteer Yasmin we started off the session by potting some seeds. She showed us how much soil to put in and where to put the seeds. After a little sprinkle of water they were ready to be labelled. The children will go to water these everyday and we will check their progress in a weeks time. She also showed the children how easy it is to grow things at home, a dried pea or a garlic clove that has just started to sprout can both be planted in soil and with the right care will start to grow into a plant of that very same vegetable. We then headed out to the allotment and Yasmin showed us what was already starting to grow there. Some children helped to tidy up a bit by collecting loose leaves and putting them in the compost and others had a go at digging in the soil. I think they were trying to find lost Roman treasures but all they unearthed was a couple of broken bricks unfortunately!
Note to self…….bring wellies next week!
