On Friday 7th October GLPS celebrated its 40th birthday in style. Our students had rehearsed a song which they sang beautifully to the Chair of Governors Adam Broom, the MP of Milton Keynes Mark Lancaster and Local Councillor Cecil Macaulay, who all kindly took time out of their busy schedules to celebrate with us. Our Head Boy/Head Girls Aaron, Keirsten and Rachel all made touching speeches about what they love about our school. Miss Dean and Miss O'Regan, who both attended GLPS and were even in the same class for a year, spoke about their favourite memories from their time here as students. Mark Lancaster thanked the school for the invitation to celebrate with us, and spoke to the children about how welcoming our school is and was impressed by how well we follow our ROOTS.
Once the assembly finished the celebrations took us outside to watch Mark Lancaster MP plant a shrub to mark the occasion. 40th birthday balloons with birthday cards attached were released into the air by Mark Lancaster MP, Local Councillor Cecil Macaulay and one student from each class. We watched the balloons fly over the school and into the distance.
Mark Lancaster MP and Local Councillor Cecil Macaulay then visited our recently selected Student Council for a Q&A session. Our Student Council Representatives inquired about our guests' route into politics, their inspiration and any advice they could give to our Student Council.
Thank you to all who attended our celebrations and helped make it a special occasion. We are looking forward to making more memories in the years to come.
