This week in pottery we have continued our learning by practising the skills we gained last week, particularly on the potter’s wheel. All the children had another go at making a pot, bowl or vase on the wheel, showing notable improvement in the symmetry and balance of the pieces. Well done to all the budding potters! Andy also talked us through how to ‘aqua plane’ the created piece off the wheel by wetting it in such a way that water gets underneath it and so can easily be slid off without causing damage. He also talked us through how to make a door sign using different shaped cutters and tools to get the overall look we were aiming for. We had some good house number and ‘Welcome/Home Sweet Home’ signs created. Andy also talked us through how he uses a particular drainage system from the sinks and potter’s wheels to prevent the water/drainage pipes getting clogged with clay. Another awesome session that every single child thoroughly enjoyed. Can’t wait til next week!
