As part of our Victorian topic, Year 5 have been looking in depth at the history of the railways. We have learnt all about the first passenger train and George Stephenson's Rocket! Today we were learning about Isambard Kingdom Brunel and his work along the Great Western Railway. Year 5 looked at some of his bridges and structures and were amazed that so many are still around today.
We then became bridge engineers ourselves! The children had to construct a bridge that could cross a 20cm gap and could hold a toy car/train. However, Miss Lovegood and Miss Scoggins only let them use straws, card, tape and elastic bands. Everybody worked brilliantly in their teams and built some amazing bridges! Isambard Kingdom Brunel would have been impressed! Well done year 5!
