Project - World War Two

Picture
 This half term we will be learning to:
  • Examine how Britain was rebuilt after World War Two.
  • Discuss the formation of the NHS and its role within society.
  • Explore the 'Windrush Generation' and their role in rebuilding Britain.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Research the formation of the NHS and create a google slides power point about how it was created. 
  • Have a go at creating your own rebuild Britain images at home. 
  • Discuss with family members the impact of the NHS and how it has supported them throughout their lives.

Writing - Coming to England

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Write letters using relative clauses.
  • Use dashes and hyphens within words.
  • Write using subordinating conjunctions. 

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Read age appropriate reports and information about WW2 and discuss the impact on every day lives.
  • Think about letters you have at home, how are these laid out and how do you present a formal letter?
  • Practise writing short book reviews at home based on your favourite books and remember to include why you enjoy those texts.

This half term we will be learning to:​
  • Practise written methods for addition and subtraction of numbers up to ten million.
  • Multiply 4 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers and applying this to real life contexts.
  • Use the long method to divide 1 digit and 2 digit numbers by 6 digit numbers.

To support your child at home you could:
  • Investigate seven digit numbers and practise solving real life problems involving numbers up to ten million.
  • Look at the relationship between addition and subtraction. How can the inverse be used to help check your answers.
  • Practise your times tables! Focus on 7s, 8s and 9s, recalling multiplication and division facts.

· Take measurements (i.g. apms) using a range of equipment.
· Record and present data in charts and graphs.
· Identify  and explain how circuits work.
· Explain how bulbs can be made brighter and dimmer.
 

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Research the origins of electricity and create a power point on google slides about how this started.
  • Collect data about your own electricity in your home and how much you use on average (if you have a smart meter).
  • Create different art representations of electricity and how is it used in society today.

Computing

  • Reread some of your favourite stories to come up with ideas for your own text based adventure games online and note down your ideas.
  • Remember to keep safe when online!

  • Understand what coding and debugging meas.
  • Use coding to create our own games on purple mash.
  • Create text based adventure games with multiple levels.

Art and Design

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Create NHS collages using varying colours and shading.
  • Use Purple Mash to create digital art based on the NHS. 
  • ​Create some windrush art using sketching pencils to reflect the emotions of people arriving in Britain.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Look at different pictures of the NHS and use different mediums such as drawing, painting or collage to create pictures.
  • Reflect on artists' creations and think about how their pictures make you feel. 

Music

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Understand that notes are on a staff and write simple repetitive patterns on a musical score.
  • Use body percussion to create our own body music.
  • Play a rhythm over a changing pulse.
  • Understand different tempos and how this impacts on playing styles.

RE

This half term we will be learning to:​
  • Understand how Christians show commitment to god through prayer.
  • Discuss the different ways religions show commitment to each other.
  • Focus on different strategies for resolving conflict. 
PSHE
  • Understand what it means to 'celebrate difference' and discuss perceptions of normal.
  • Understand the meaning of having a ‘inclusion' and 'disability'.
  • Discuss our understanding of bullying and how we can report and respond to bullying when we see it.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Discuss differences between you and your family and how you celebrate this.
  • Ask family members about their own faith and how this plays a part in their lives.
  • Create a new safe hand at home to help you tackle any worries or bullying that you see.

PE

Picture
PE will be on Thursday PM for all of Year 6. Then, Tuesday PM for Miss. Green's class and Friday PM for Miss. Parish's class.

Outdoor: Tag Rugby
Skills taught include: 
  • Travelling with a ball changing speed and direction confidently.
  • Choosing skills which meet the need of the situation.
  • Playing competitive games whilst showing respect to team members and opponents. 

Indoor : Gymnastics 

French (MFL)

 This half term we will be learning to:
  • Name different foods
  • Revise greetings and using these to ask for basic food types. 
  • Speak and read numbers beyond 20.
  • Apply conversations to money and weather. 

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Practise passing larger balls in a group of three.
  • Watch different matches and discuss tactics used by the team.
  • Practise activities to raise your heart rate, try star jumps and lunges!
