Our Learning This Half Term

Welcome to Summer 1 Half Term! This half term our topic is "In the Garden!"  We will be learning all about growing plants and vegetables, the life cycle of a flower and why plants are so important. Finally, we will be reading Jack and the Beanstalk and The Very Hungry Caterpillar and creating our own versions of these stories.

This term we will be learning to: 
- Play co-operatively, taking turns with others. 
- Show sensitivity to others' needs and feelings.
- Be confident and say when we do or do not need help.

Communication, Language and Literacy
This half term we will be learning to:
- Re-tell the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and anticipate key events.
-Re-tell the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and anticipate key     events.
-Sequence the stories and innovate them to create our own stories. 
-Write simple sentences that the children can read back.

This half term we will be learning to:
 - Identify some of the jobs the children do in their family. 
- Know how to make friends to stop us feeling lonely.
- Find ways to solve problems and stay friends.
- Understand the impact of unkind words.

- Provide activities that involve turn-taking and sharing e.g. a family     game.
- Discuss feelings regularly.
- Offer help with activities when asked but not before.​

- Practice reading and recognising all set 1 Read Write Inc phonemes and digraphs.

- Provide a selection of loose parts and estimate and organise into tens to see how many full tens and how many of the next ten. 
- Read 20 big trucks in the middle of the street by Mark Lee.
- Create a simple shape arrangement and ask your child to match your arrangement exactly. 
- Create your own first, then and now stories with small world characters. E.g. first there were 5 dinosaurs, then I add 2 dinosaurs, now I have 7 dinosaurs.
