What is a Young Carer?
Young carers are 8-19 year olds who are caring for a family member with a physical or mental illness, disability, or because of a drug or alcohol related problem. the person being cared for may be a parent, sibling or other relative living in the same household.

The aim of Young Carers MK is to provide support for young carers in Milton Keynes by providing:
At Great Linford Primary School we know that awareness is possibly the most important aspect of identifying the vulnerabilities of young carers. It is important that staff can recognise the possible indicators and start to support these young people in practical ways.
We support our young carers either with regular meetings with their families to ensure the children's social and emotional needs and their educational needs are being taken into account. Where necessary we allocate a keyworker who checks in with the children and liaise with our Learning Mentors.
Great Linford are currently working towards a Young Carers in Schools Award. The programme is an exciting England-wide initiative that aims to make it as easy as possible for schools to support young carers and awards good practice.
