SMSC

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development at Great Linford Primary School

At Great Linford Primary School Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development is promoted not only through all the subjects of the curriculum but also through the ethos of the school and through the development of positive attitudes and values. We are a community based school that strives to provide excellent and outstanding quality of SMSC across our school for our children, parents, outside partners and staff.

SMSC Across the School

At Great Linford Primary School we work hard to ensure that we are providing a balances and creative curriculum that encompasses SMSC in all aspects of school life. Below are a small selection of some of the excellent opportunities that we have for SMSC in the curriculum.

Parliament Week!
Parliament Week is a national event in which schools choose to dedicate learning time to teaching about the role of Parliament. Across the school, we have been getting really creative and producing some fantastic art work. Year One created some excellent votes for women propaganda posters and learnt about Emily Pankhurst. In Year 5, the children created some fantastic information packs on the history of democracy. They researched a particular area themselves and then presented the information across an A3 page. Year 6 had a debate and took part in a drama activity.

Anti-Bullying Week!

At Great Linford Primary School we take part in Anti-Bullying Week every year!
This year, every class reviewed our systems such as, the worry box and safe hands to remind us of how to act if we have any worries around bullying or anything else that we are concerned about. As well as this, each class created some fantastic art work which you can see below that is centred on Anti-Bullying. Year 1 created a jigsaw of kindness and stuck it together to show how we all fit. Other year groups used the opportunity to create kindness cards and to share kind words about their peers.

Debating Club

This year Miss. Snowdon will be running a brand new debating club linked to our Speakers Cup competition! The club will focus on developing children's confident voice skills and will debate interesting current affairs. The children will have the opportunity to debate and discuss current affairs and issues.

Black History at Great Linford Primary School

At Great Linford Primary School we teach Black History interwoven into our curriculum. In Year 6, the children complete
a half term unit on 'Re-building Britain' where they look at the impact of the Windrush generation on England. The children also
learn about a variety important historical figures throughout their years with us!
