Our Learning This Half Term
Welcome to Summer 2 Half Term! This half term, our topic is Roaming in the Rainforest. We will be learning all about the different layers of the rainforest, the animals that live there and why the rainforest is at risk. Finally, we will be following the adventures of a sloth named Frank and a moth named Dee in our story "Sloths don't run!"
Personal Social and Emotional Development
This term we will be learning to: - Talk about how we show feelings. -Talk about our behaviours and their consequences. -Take account of one another's ideas about how to organise their activity. Communication, Language and Literacy
This half term we will be learning to: - Read and comment on stories about the rainforest. -Demonstrate understanding about the stories we have read. -Write key sentences using phonemes learnt in our phonics sessions focusing on digraphs and trigraphs. -Write some common irregular words. Suggested activities to support learning:
- Use persona dolls to support children in considering others feelings. - Read books with stories about characters that follow or break rules, and the effects of their behaviour on others. -Play games that promote turn-taking and sharing. ggested activities to support learning:
- Help children to identify the main events in a story and re-enact as a basis for imaginative play. - Practice reading and writing all RWI set one and two sounds. - Read with your child daily, looking for digraphs within words and highlighting red words. - Practice the high frequency words sent home daily. - Read Double Dave by Sue Hendra. - Play Double Trouble on Nrich. - Play Numbots - Provide quantities of foods to share on a picnic. - Plan an obstacle course, checking where things need to be in relation to others. - Look at patterns in stories from a range of cultures. To support your child at home you could:
- Draw a picture of your home and write a sentence to describe what you like best about it. - Discuss where your special place to visit is. - Discuss any times you have visited a church. Was it for a special occasion? To support your child at home you could: - Plan and design your own rainforest with different materials. - Talk to children about how we can experiment with different materials and what they think might happen. - Provide a "holding bay" for models where they can be enjoyed or developed on. To support your child at home you could:
