Computing

Computing at Great Linford Primary School

At Great Linford Primary School, we take computing and digital literacy very seriously as part of your child's learning. In an ever increasing digital world, digital literacy is essential to a large variety of jobs and further education; we want to set your child up for success. A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use creativity and computational thinking to understand and change the world around them. Computing has deep cross-curricular links with mathematics, science, and design technology - helping to develop a well rounded set of skills.  Pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to apply this knowledge through programming. Building on this, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate: allowing them to use a range of software to express themselves, developing their ideas through information and communication technology - at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in an ever expanding digital world.

What we're teaching:

  • Online safety - visit our online safety page here to find out more
  • Programming
  • Animation
  • ...and much more!
As well as the computing curriculum itself, we also try to incorporate the use of technology into other subjects through the use of iPads and Chromebooks. Children develop their use of computers as a tool to research information and differentiate between reliable and non-reliable sources online. They use Google applications such as Docs, Slides and Sheets as publishing tools to present their work across a range of subjects. Understanding how to apply real world instructions to a digital world through coding also draws links between English and Computing lessons.

Investing in equipment and knowledge:

At Great Linford, we have invested in sets of Chromebooks to ensure every year group has access to devices - within computing lessons but also to ensure cross-curricular activities where devices are accessible in all subjects. Children are given accounts on a range of online learning resources which can be accessed in school but also at home. We encourage families to familiarise themselves with these resources and speak to class teachers if you are unsure of login details: children will usually have these stored in their Reading Record books.

2021-22 Digital Leaders

We have also created a group of digital leaders to bring together peer experts on technology in the school.
We meet to discuss latest projects and share ideas and visit classes to support our friends and classmates.

"Check out our Computing Guides!"

At Great Linford Primary School, we believe that by empowering children, parents and carers with information about the ever-growing digital world, we open up channels to have informed conversations about online safety. As children learn new technology as they grow, it is important adults fully understand the digital world and know the risks and benefits it can offer. These guides focus on many issues which the school, and the digital leader children, believe adults and children should be aware of. To view the full range of guides, please click the button.
