Our Curriculum
Our school follows the White Rose Maths schemes of work and uses a Teaching for Mastery approach to maths. We strongly believe that everyone can achieve in maths and are passionate about building confidence and resilience in every child. Our Whole School Maths Overview outlines which units in maths are taught at different times of year in each year group. Of course, this is a rough guide, as we use day-to-day assessment to ascertain when the class are ready to move onto the next stage of learning, and this may vary for each class. Further information can be found in our Maths Policy.
Parent Pocket Guides
The parent pocket guides below give guidance on how addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are taught within the school at each stage of learning. Click on the images to download them, or pick one up from reception at the school.
Parent Workshops
Usually we hold a few different parent workshops as well as open mornings across the school year. These are an opportunity to find out about how maths is taught in our school. We also offer the opportunity to spend some time in your child's maths lesson engaging with them as they solve some fun maths puzzles. Information about these will be provided through Parentmail. Below are links to our most recent sessions.
Supporting From Home
Weekly Maths Facts
Each week, your child will be given 5 weekly maths facts to practise at home. These may be number facts, times tables or other key facts to aid mathematical fluency. Each week, children are tested on the previous three weeks of maths facts (similar to spelling tests). Children will spend time practising these in school, but in order to develop fluency with these, it is essential that they are practised at home as well.
Parent Workbooks
You can also support your child's mathematical journey by using the Parent Workbooks at home supplied by White Rose. These are available on the White Rose website. Use your child's Google classroom page to identify which maths unit they are currently working on. The learning in the booklets will align with the teacher's daily lessons, allowing your child additional practise that they can complete at home.
Parent Guidance Videos
White Rose also provides free videos which you can access to develop your understanding of how maths is currently taught in primary schools. If you feel as though maths has changed since you were at school, or you are concerned about how best to support your child with maths at home, then these videos will be invaluable.

Year 4 MTC Check
In June, Year 4 pupils take part in the statutory Multiplication Table Checks. The purpose of the MTC is to see whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. Schools must administer the checks to all eligible Year 4 pupils in the first three weeks of June.
The MTC consists of 25 times table questions which are completed on a computer. The children will be given three practise questions before the test starts. They will then have 6 seconds to answer each question.
You can help to prepare your child for the MTC by practising times tables at home using TTRockstars or other similar websites. The Soundcheck part of the TTRockstars website mimics the test conditions. Children will be tested on a variety of questions from different times tables up to 12 x 12, but will not be tested on division.
You can find out more information about this here.

Useful and Fun Websites!
As a school, we have a subscription to Times Table Rockstars. Every child should have their Times Table Rockstars login stuck into their reading records. If you are unsure of where to find their login, please ask the class teacher. Times Table Rockstars is a great way to practise your times tables. Garage games will only practise the times tables that your child is working on, as set by their teacher. Studio games can be played with times tables up to 12 x 12 for more experienced mathematicians. By playing studio games, you will gain a Rock Speed and may be in with a chance of finding your name on our TT Rockstars display in the school corridor! Soundcheck mimics the upcoming MTC Tests, which are a new statutory times table test being administered to all year 4 pupils as of this year. Festival gives you the opportunity to compete against others around the world. Arena allows you to play against others who may be online from your class or school. Rockslam allows you to challenge someone from the school - you can even challenge a teacher!

Using the same password as your TTRockstars password, you can also log in to Numbots! This is a great website for EYFS and KS1 children, but also continues to practise key skills as you move into KS2! Practise your number recognition and addition and subtraction facts! Numbots also have an app which can be downloaded on your phone or tablet.

KS2 pupils in our school have access to Doodle Maths. They will be bringing home their own usernames and passwords. By logging in each day and practising maths activities from across the curriculum, you can earn Doodle Stars and even Doodle Badges! These allow you to unlock games and to customise your own Doodle Robot! You will also have access to Doodle Tables which will help you to master your times tables! Doodle Maths is also available as an app which can be downloaded onto your phone or tablet.
