Presentation of learning
across the school

Congratulations to our latest presentation award recipients!

This year at GLPS, we are lending a greater focus to the presentation of learning across the school.
Picture
We have high expectations of the presentation of learning across the school. Our teachers and LSAs are working really hard with the children to make sure that everyone understands these expectations and how to achieve them.
We have had some amazing improvement in presentation already, in both the lower and upper ends of the school!
All learners in school earn special award pencils for demonstrating consistent effort and achievement in their handwriting and presentation. Each new academic year, learners work hard on the presentation of learning in all their books to earn bronze, silver and gold pencils.  Learners work towards new pencils each academic year, starting afresh, to show that they have reached the new expectations of writing for their new year group.

The Autumn Term (September - December)

Picture
The start of the new school marks the beginning of our new year groups learning journey. This  means we begin to work towards the new expectation for that year group. Presentation is no exception! Each teacher will introduce the expectations of handwriting and presentation to their new class and each learner will begin working towards their bronze pencil straight away. The work produced across all areas of learning will be taken into consideration when awarding bronze, silver or gold pencils. Teachers wll be looking to see that there is a consistent level of presentation in all books. Learners will be awarded bronze pencils when they have demonstrated consostent use of handwriting and presentation that meets the expectation of their year group.

The Spring Term (January - April)

From the spring term, learners who have already achieved their bronze pencils can begin to work towards their silver pencils! To earn this pencil, learners will show that they are able to build on their handwriting and presentation from the previous term and maintaining this consistently across all areas of learning.

The Summer Term (April - July)

During the summer term, learners are continuing to build on from the standard that they achieved during the previous term. For those who achieved their silver pencil, this will be the term that they are able to earn their gold pencil.

Pen Licence

From year 4 and upwards, learners who are demonstrating particularly high standards of high writing and presentation will be awarded a pen licence. This is in addition to the bronze, silver and gold pencils. A pen licence allows learners to use school handwriting pens in their books, except Maths books and any other work specifically required to be completed in pencil (drawing, for example).

Many teachers from year 4 and upwards like to pick one learner from their, who they are considering for a pen licence, to do "Pen for the day" on a Friday. This presents prospective pen licence recipients the chance to demonstrate that they can meet their year group expectations in handwrting and presentation in pen as well as pencil. If this continues to be popular and used well across the upper school, we will introduce this as an official process for applying for a pen licence.

Perfect Presentation Award

For those who achieve all of their presentation and handwriting awards in the school year, and continue to work at a very high standard in all areas of learning, their teacher can nominate them for a "Perfect Presentation" award. This award is a badge to be worn on school jumpers every day at school to demonstrate and celebrate their continued hard work and dedication.
