PE Days:
Both Classes: Tuesdays and Fridays
Children come to school in PE kit on PE days. If your child cannot remove earrings themselves, please ensure they are not worn on PE days. Please ensure long hair is tied back.

During Term 1

 Project - The Great Fire of London 

This half term we will be:
  • Learning about the key events that led to The Great Fire of London.
  • Comparing how firefighting has changed over time.
  • Comparing how life was different in 1666.
  • Learning about primary sources and how Samuel Pepys' diary helped us understand the fire.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Talk about fire safety and create a poster to help inform others.
  • Take a physical or virtual trip to London and explore key streets relevant to The Great Fire of London. 
  • Explore different Great Fire of London books together. ​

Writing

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Write a diary in the style of a child living through The Great Fire
  • Write a fact file about the London landmarks 
  • Use the 'everyday toolkit' with consistency and accuracy 
  • Use adjectives and conjunctions to create interesting compound sentences 

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Watch the videos on BBC Bitesize bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/history-ks1-why-did-the-great-fire-of-london-happen/znp9r2p 
  • Try keeping at diary at home to record the everyday activities as well as your thoughts, feelings and opinions 
  • Visit the library to find books about London, The Great Fire and other topics your child finds interesting 
  • Ask your children open ended questions about their learning such as 'What was the most interesting thing you found out today?' 'Tell me something you learnt that you made you laugh?' 'Can you tell me more about...?' 'Show me how you work out...' 
  • Play games! Bring the learning to the play! 
  • Complete home learning tasks (green grid), spellings and maths fluency questions weekly and use the online platforms such as TT Rockstars, Numbots and Spelling Frame (linked below). 

Maths

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Count forwards and backwards up to 50. 
  • Partition numbers into tens and ones in various representations. 
  • Understand and use the comparison symbols.
  • Read and write numbers up to 100.
  • Count in 2s, 5s and 10s.
  • Use concrete apparatus to solve 2 digit addition and subtraction.
  • Solve addition and subtraction that cross 10.
  • Use our number bonds and related facts to help us solve addition and subtraction.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Practice number bonds to 10, 20 and 100.
  • Demonstrate how we use maths in our daily lives; using money, telling the time, using capacity by pouring own drinks, sharing the sweets into equal groups! 
  • Practice counting in 2's, 5's and 10's from any given number. 
  • Practise your skills on TT Rockstars and Numbots 

Science - Our Local Environment

This half term we will be:
  • Learning the difference between things that are living, no longer living and things that have never lived.
  • Learning about food chains and how different animals depend on each other to live.
  • Learning about and comparing different habitats across the world, including microhabitats. 

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

​To support your child at home you could:​
  • Find examples of food chains with animas in your garden or in the local area
  • Discuss the differences between things that are living, not living and things that have never lived. Then ask "How do you know?!"
  • Research an animal to find what sort of habitat it lives in.

PE

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Dance - The Great Fire of London.
  • Multi skills - Throwing and catching.
Our PE days are Tuesdays and Fridays. Children can come to school wearing their PE kit. Full uniform information can be found here www.greatlinfordprimaryschool.co.uk/uniform.html 
We enjoy indoor and outdoor PE lessons.  

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Check out BBC Super movers. Can you learn one of the dances? 
  • Create your own dance sequence about a topic of your choice.
  • Try a new sport. 
  • Have a go at a Joe Wicks workout on YouTube! 

 PSHE - Being me in my world

Suggested Activities to Support Learning
This half term we will be learning to:
  • Recognise when we feel worried and who to ask for help.
  • Explain how to make the class a safe and welcoming place.
  • Create a learning charter.
  • Understand what consequences and rewards are.
  • Understand how following the learning charter can help us learn.
To support your child at home you could:
  • Discuss what a worry is and how who we can go to.
  • Take part in mindfulness activities. 
  • Create a picture of all the things you like about being you.
  • Reinforce use of their 'protective hand' if they seek support whilst at school. 

RE - Christianity   

This half term we will be:
  • Learning about the importance of kindness.
  • Learning about 'The Good Samaritan'.
  • Learning about 'The Paralysed Man'.
  • Comparing the two bible stories.
  • Exploring how Christians show kindness.

Suggested activities to support learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Visit a local church. 
  • Talk to someone who belongs to the Christian faith.
  • Create a play about kindness and why it is important.
