Make sure your child comes into school wearing a PE kit suitable for outdoor PE on both days so that they can stay warm.

Project: The Mayans

This half term we will be learning how to :
  • Describe the key physical features of the Maya civilisation.
  • Sequence the key periods in the Maya civilisation.
  • Identifying periods that were happening in Britain at the same time.
  • Name the features of the rainforest.
  • Explain the challenges facing the Maya in the rainforest.
  • Explain how the Maya settled in the rainforest.
  • Name the features of Maya houses.
  • Identify the similarities and differences between Maya and Anglo-Saxon houses.

  • Continue to practise times tables using TT Rockstars or DoodleTables (log ins are inside reading records)
  • Practise on Numbots (using your TTRockstars password) to become very quick with your addition and subtraction skills.
  • Practise maths skills on Doodle maths.
  • Use the White Rose Home Learning booklets each day to recap what has been learnt in school.

  • Describe gravity and its effects.
  • Describe the relationship between mass and gravity.
  • Describe air resistance and its effects.

Computing

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

This half term we will be learning how to:
  • Create a toy with simple images with a single movement.
  • Create a short stop motion with small changes between images.
  • Think of a simple story idea for their animation then decompose it into smaller parts to create a storyboard with simple characters.
  • Make small changes to the models to ensure a smooth animation and delete unnecessary frames.
  • Add effects such as extending parts and titles.
  • Provide helpful feedback to other groups about their animations.

To support your child at home you could: ​
  • Use Stop Motion studio at home to practise the skills we are using in school.
  • Talk to your child about online safety and protecting their own data.

 

Art and Design

This half term, we will be learning how to: 
  • Understand and explain what retrofuturism is.
  • Participate in discussions and offer ideas.
  • Evaluate images using simple responses, sometimes using formal elements to extend ideas.
  • Provide plausible suggestions for how a piece was created.
  • Comfortably use different stimuli to draw from.
  • Use past knowledge and experience to explore a range of drawing processes.
  • Select and place textures to create a collagraph plate, applying an understanding of the material, which may be supported by testing.
  • Create a selection of drawings and visual notes that demonstrate their ideas using sketchbooks.

Music

Picture
This half term in music we will be:
  • Explain what musical theatre is and be able to recall at least three features of this kind of music.
  • Categorise songs as action songs or character songs.
  • Select appropriate existing music for their scene to tell the story of a journey.
  • Perform in time with their groups, ensuring smooth transitions between spoken dialogue, singing and dancing.

  • Listen to music and clap or sing along.
  • Practise tapping out a beat and repeating it.
  • Buy a musical instrument to use at home.

PSHE

This half term in our Jigsaw lessons we will be learning about 'Relationships'.
We will be:
  • Learning about our own identities and individuality.
  • Learning about changes in friendships and how to negotiate and compromise during fall-outs.
  • Learning about feelings of attraction towards others.
  • Learning about feelings of jealousy.
  • Learning how to stay safe when using technology to communicate with friends.

  • Answer questions that they may have about this topic.

RE - Islam

PE

Picture
During our outdoor PE sessions this half term, we will be learning track and athletics skills including running, jumping and throwing.
​During our indoor PE sessions we will be throwing, hitting and catching skills. 
PE kits should be worn to school on our PE days. Please note that we do try to continue with our PE sessions even when the weather is very cold. We also currently have all windows open during the day for better ventilation so please make sure you wear weather-appropriate PE attire (warm jumpers, jogging bottoms) as well as suitable trainers for the outdoor PE sessions.

  • Choose a sport to take part in at home.
  • Find sporting videos to watch online.
