This Half Term

Project: The Adventures of Bear and The Queen

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Label timelines using language such as: past, present, older and newer.
  • Show an understanding of the nation's history.
  • Use artefacts, stories and pictures to learn about the past.
  • Ask our own questions.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Talk about the Queen and her family.
  • Research or visit London and the tourist attractions.
  • Talk to your children about their own family history.
  • Encourage your children to ask questions.

Writing

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Name the letters of the alphabet.
  • Form and write a simple sentence.
  • Use capital letters and full stops correctly.

Throughout each topic we will be continuing to use our phonic sounds to help us with our spellings and building up our independence with forming sentences.
About our Text

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Write sentences using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
  • Practise common exception words.
  • Practise letter formation and recognition.​ 
  • Practise phonic sounds daily.
  • Play word games that help spell out CVC words.
  • Read daily with your child.​

  • Counting forwards and backwards from any numbers between 0 and 10.

Numbots is an online learning resource that will support their fluency in maths. Your child will have an individual log in to Numbots inside their reading diary.

  • About the basic parts of the human body.
  • The 5 different senses and how we use them in everyday life.
  • Which body part we use for each sense.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Encourage your child to recognise their 5 senses and use them when trying food or out on a walk.
  • Have a conversation with your child about their senses and their body parts.
  • Take part in fun games using the 5 senses, for example putting your hand in a box and seeing what you can feel.

PE

  • Discuss the benefits of physical exercise and the effect that it has on our bodies.
  • Practise throwing and catching different sized balls.
  • Make up your own game with your own set of rules with your child to play together.
