PE Days:
Indoor PE: Monday
Outdoor PE: Tuesday
Children come to school in PE kit on PE days. If your child cannot remove earrings themselves, please ensure they are not worn on PE days. We do go outside in cold weather. Please ensure your child has weather appropriate clothing.

During Term 1

Project: The Adventures of Bear and The King

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Label timelines using language such as: past, present, older and newer.
  • Show an understanding of the nation's history.
  • Use artefacts, stories and pictures to learn about the past.
  • Ask our own questions.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Talk about the King and his family.
  • Research or visit London and the tourist attractions.
  • Talk to your children about their own family history.
  • Encourage your children to ask questions.

Reading

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Retell events that have happened in a text in chronological order.
  • Suggest what may happen next.
  • Decode unfamiliar vocabulary using our phonics.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Read at home everyday and discuss what has happened in the book so far.
  • Retell Katie in London using drama.
  • Create a list of books you would like to read together. 
  • Take a trip to the local library.

Writing

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Name the letters of the alphabet.
  • Form and write a simple sentence.
  • Use capital letters and full stops correctly.

Throughout each topic we will be continuing to use our phonic sounds to help us with our spellings and building up our independence with forming sentences.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Write sentences using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
  • Practise common exception words.
  • Practise letter formation and recognition.​ 
  • Practise phonic sounds daily.
  • Play word games that help spell out CVC words.
  • Read daily with your child.​

Maths


​This half term we will be learning to:
  • Sort and count objects.
  • Counting forwards and backwards from any numbers between 0 and 10.
  • Count one more and one less.
  • Order numbers 0 to 10.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Continue to practise number formation.
  • Practise recognising numbers 0-10.
  • Practise ordering numbers 0-10.
Numbots is an online learning resource that will support their fluency in maths. Your child will have an individual log in to Numbots inside their reading diary. 

Science- Who Am I?


​This half term we will be learning:
  • About the basic parts of the human body.
  • The 5 different senses and how we use them in everyday life.
  • Which body part we use for each sense.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Encourage your child to recognise their 5 senses and use them when trying food or out on a walk.
  • Have a conversation with your child about their senses and their body parts.
  • Take part in fun games using the 5 senses, for example putting your hand in a box and seeing what you can feel.

Computing

This half term we will be learning to:
  • ​Collect and group data.
  • Answer questions about data.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Practise logging on to a computer at home with your child.
  • Allow your child time to explore technology for their learning, such as numbots.
  • Talk with your child about staying safe on the internet and how to use technology in a safe way.

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Create different types of lines.
  • Explore making lines to represent water. 
  • Draw with different media. 
  • Develop our understanding of line making. 
  • Draw using our observation skills.

  • Ask your child the names of different objects around the house or on your walks.

Music and Performance

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Clap the rhythm of our names.
  • Clap in time to music.
  • Sing the overall shape of a melody.
  • Play in time to music.
  • Copy and create rhythms based on word patterns.
  • Play on the pulse.

To support your child at home you could:
  • Practise tapping to a beat.
  • ​Practise singing well known songs.
  • Create rhythms as a family. 

RE - Our Wonderful World

This half term will be will be learning to:
  • Identify what makes our world special.
  • Retell a range of creation stories.
  • Retell the Hindu story of creation.
  • Compare the sky and heaven.

To support your child at home you could:
  • Talk to your child about your families personal religion or beliefs.
  • Discuss with your child about respecting different religions and beliefs.
  • Visit different religious buildings. 

​PSHE - Being Me in My World 

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Recognise where we feel safe.
  • Discuss our feelings.
  • Recognising different feelings and events where these may occur.

To support your child at home you could:​
  • Remind your child of the class worry box and what they need to do in school if they are being bullied or have a worry.
  • Talk to your child about their feelings.

PE

This half term we will be looking at a variety of games and dance movements. This will include learning to:
  • Master basic movements.
  • Create a simple routine.
  • Land a simple jump safely. 

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Discuss the benefits of physical exercise and the effect that it has on our bodies.
  • Practise throwing and catching different sized balls.
  • Make up your own game with your own set of rules with your child to play together.
