Make sure your child comes into school wearing a PE kit suitable for outdoor PE on both days so that they can stay warm.

This Half Term

Project: All Along The River

Picture

This half term we will be :
  • Learning about how rivers are formed.
  • Learning about parts of a river.
  • Finding out about rivers in our local area.
  • Researching flood defences for rivers in our area.
  • ​Finding out about the impact of flooding and pollution on our local waterways.

To support your child at home you could:
  • Visit some of the Rivers in Milton Keynes.

Writing

This half term our class text is Who Let The Gods Out by Maz Evans. During our English lessons we will be learning how to:
  • Write a persuasive letter.
  • Use cause and effect conjunctions.
  • Use rhetorical questions.
  • Use emotive language.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Find out about local issues and write a persuasive letter to the council to give your views.
  • Read different types of letters.

  • Understand the relative size of decimal numbers.
  • Understand the equivalence between fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Calculate using decimals.
  • Translate geometric shapes on a grid.

To support your child at home you could:
  • Continue to practise times tables using TT Rockstars or DoodleTables (log ins are inside reading records)
  • Practise on Numbots (using your TTRockstars password) to become very quick with your addition and subtraction skills.
  • Practise maths skills on Doodle maths.
  • Use the White Rose Home Learning booklets each day to recap what has been learnt in school.

 Science - Animals Including Humans

  • To describe the differences in life cycles between mammals, amphibians, birds and insects.
  • To describe the life process of reproduction in some plants and animals.

Art and Design

  • Evaluating different designs and exploring how pivot and slider mechanisms work.

  • Look online to find instructions for simple pop up designs of your own.

Music - Musical Theatre

This half term in music we will be:
  • Explain what musical theatre is and be able to recall at least three features of this kind of music.
  • Categorise songs as action songs or character songs.
  • Select appropriate existing music for their scene to tell the story of a journey.
  • Perform in time with their groups, ensuring smooth transitions between spoken dialogue, singing and dancing.

PSHE

This half term in our Jigsaw lessons we will be learning about 'Changing Me'.
We will be learning:
  • To respect that everyone is different and unique.
  • To understand changes that may happen in our bodies during puberty.
  • To understand that sexual intercourse can lead to conception.
  • How we will take on new responsibilities as we become teenagers.

  • Talk to them about what they are learning in school.
  • Answer questions that they may have about this topic.

RE - Belief Within Our Community

​This half term we will be:
  • Finding out about the different beliefs of religious and non-religious communities in our local area.
  • Considering how being part of a religious community can help some people.
  • Finding out about the impact that faith and beliefs have had on inspirational figures.
  • Considering what makes it difficult to live life according to our own beliefs.

To support your child at home you could:
  • Discuss different religions.
  • ​Discuss communities that you are a part of and why you chose to be a part of this community.
  • Talk about beliefs that you or your family hold.

PE

Picture
During our outdoor PE sessions this half term, we will be learning track and athletics skills including running, jumping and throwing.
​During our indoor PE sessions we will be learning dance skills by creating a group dance to represent environmental change on our planet.
PE kits should be worn to school on our PE days. Please note that we do try to continue with our PE sessions even when the weather is very cold. We also currently have all windows open during the day for better ventilation so please make sure you wear weather-appropriate PE attire (warm jumpers, jogging bottoms) as well as suitable trainers for the outdoor PE sessions.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Choose a sport to take part in at home.
  • Find sporting videos to watch online.

French

Suggested Activities to support learning

This half term in French we will be learning 'Les Transports' (Transport).
