Project: The Adventures of Bear and Queen

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Label a timeline using language such as past and present.
  • Show an understanding for the nation's history.
  • Use artefacts, pictures and stories to learn about the past.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Create a timeline of your child's life so far, including key events such as starting school.
  • Compare your childhood to your child's to see how this has changed.
  • Research Queen Elizabeth || and the Royal Family.

Writing

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Write a postcard
  • Write a party invite
  • Write instructions
Throughout each topic, we will be focussing on using our capital letters, full stops, using our phonic sounds to help our spellings and using simple sentence structures.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Write sentences using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
  • Practise common exception words.
  • Practise letter formation and recognition.​ 
  • Practise phonic sounds daily.
  • Play word games that help spell out CVC words.
  • Practise weekly spellings set on Google Classroom using Spelling Frame.

  • Practise number bonds to 10.
  • Practise number formation.
  • Roll a dice and ask your child to add these numbers together.
  • Play games such as snakes and ladders to reinforce counting.
  • Roll a dice and ask your child to subtract the smallest number from the biggest number.

  • Name and describe the four seasons.
  • Observe the different seasons and how this affects the weather.
  • Identify which plants grow in each different season.

To support your child at home you could:
  • Make a diary of the different weather over a week.
  • Look back at pictures and identify the weather in each.
  • Discuss the weather each morning on the way to school.
  • Create a piece of ART showing the 4 different seasons.
  • Create a wind sock and observe the wind.

Computing

  • Log onto a computer and access sites such as purple mash.
  • Use technology and the internet in a safe way and what to do if we find something that we find upsetting.
To support your child at home you could:
  • Practise logging on to a computer at home with your child.
  • Allow your child time to explore technology for their learning, such as numbots and spellingframe.
  • Talk with your child about staying safe on the internet and how to use technology in a safe way.


Art and Design

  • Create  textures with our pencils.
  • Use different drawing tools including charcoal and felt tip pens.

  • Practise creating different shades and textures using a pencil.

  • Understand what bullying is and what this may look like.
  • Understand what to do if we are aware of bullying taking place.

  • Have a discussion with your child about the differences there are between everyone.
  • Remind your child that although we are different, we still treat everybody with the same respect.
  • Remind your child of the class worry box and what they need to do in school if they are being bullied or have a worry.

  • Carry equipment such as mats safely.
  • Hold our balance.
  • Master basic jumping actions.
  • Link 2 or more actions together to create a sequence.​

To support your child at home you could:
  • Discuss the benefits of physical exercise and the effect that it has on our bodies.
  • Watch a clip of a gymnast- what qualities do they need to have to be successful?
  • When at the park, explore the different shapes you can make on the equipment. Can you hold a balance with your child?
