Indoor PE: Monday
Outdoor PE: Tuesday
Children come to school in PE kit on PE days. If your child cannot remove earrings themselves, please ensure they are not worn on PE days. We do go outside in cold weather. Please ensure your child has weather appropriate clothing.

This Half Term

Project: The Adventure of Bear

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding seas.
  • Use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries.
  • Make observations from pictures, videos about the characteristics of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom.
  • Use aerial photographs to recognise landmarks.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Talk to your child about their geographical location.
  • Look at a map and discuss key features together.
  • Look at a map of the United Kingdom and label the four countries.
  • Research key landmarks in each country that makes up the United Kingdom.

Writing

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Sequence sentences to form short narratives.
  • Leave finger spaces in between words.
  • Compose a sentence orally before writing it.
  • Use a capital letter for names and at the start of sentences.

Throughout each topic, we will be focussing on using our capital letters, full stops, using our phonic sounds to help our spellings and using simple sentence structures.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Write sentences using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
  • Practise common exception words.
  • Practise letter formation and recognition.​ 
  • Practise phonic sounds daily.​
  • Practise weekly spellings set on Google Classroom using Spelling Frame.

Maths


​This half term we will be learning to:
  • Subtract two one-digit numbers.
  • Count back from a given number.
  • Compare addition and subtraction number sentences.
  • Recognise, name and sort 2D and 3D shapes.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Practise counting forwards and backwards to 20.
  • Play board games that support your child’s fluency in addition and subtraction.
  • Continue number formation ensuring numbers are the correct way round.
  • Practise number bonds to 10, ensuring your child is fluent in these.

Numbots is an online learning resource that will support their fluency in maths. Your child will have an individual log in to Numbots inside their reading diary. ​

Science- Everyday Materials


​This half term we will be learning to:
  • Name objects and identify the materials they are made from.
  • Recognise that objects are made from materials that suit their purpose.
  • Recall that a property is how a material can be described.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Explore materials you have at home. 
  • Sort materials at home using their properties.
  • Create a guess the material game describing it only by it's properties. 

Computing

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Explain what an algorithm is.
  • Write clear algorithms.
  • Follow an algorithm.
  • Explain what inputs and outputs are.
  • Create an achievable program.
  • Decompose a design into steps.
  • Identify bugs in an algorithm and how to fix them.
To support your child at home you could:
  • Practise logging on to a computer at home with your child.
  • Allow your child time to explore technology for their learning, such as numbots and spelling frame.
  • Talk with your child about staying safe on the internet and how to use technology in a safe way.

Art, Design and Technlogy

This half term in art we will be learning to:
  • Create different types of line.
  • Use line and marks to create water.
  • Draw with different media.
  • Create an observational drawing.
This half term in Design Technology we will be learning to:
  • Describe fruits and vegetables and explain why they are a fruit or a vegetable.
  • Name a range of places that fruits and vegetables grow.
  • Describe basic characteristics of fruit and vegetables.
  • Prepare fruits and vegetables to make a smoothie.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Explore mark making at home with different materials. 
  • Set up an observational drawing activity using objects from around the house. 
  • Explore natural materials that could be used for mark making on a local walk. 

 Music and Performance

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Recognise tempo and pitch changes.
  • Describe the character, mood or story of music we listen to. 
  • Describe differences between pieces of music. 
  • Repeat short, rhythmic patterns. 
  • Sing short songs from memory.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Practise tapping to a beat.
  • ​Practise singing well known songs.
  • Practise creating and repeating different melodies. 
  • Listen to a range of musical pieces and have a discussion about likes and dislikes. 

RE

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Discuss our personal experiences with gift giving.
  • Retell the story of the birth of Jesus.
  • Explore what gifts Christians might give to Jesus.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Have a discussion with your child on respecting beliefs and religions.
  • Talk to your child about gift giving and what this means.
  • Talk to your child about the celebration of Christmas.
  • Discuss celebrations in your family. 

​PSHE - Celebrating Differences

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Celebrate our differences.
  • Identify similarities and differences between us and members of our class.
  • Make friends.
  • Recognise the signs for bullying and know what to do if this is taking place in our school.

 Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • Remind your child to use our worry box or the people on their safe hand if they have a worry in school.
  • Talk to your children about celebration differences.
  • Engaging in a conversation with your child about differences but whilst ensuring we all treat each other with respect.

PE

  • Perform different rocking and rolling actions.

  • Create smooth transitions.
