PE Days

Indoor PE

On Wednesdays some children will continue to go swimming (please see messages from Mr Shipton).
Children who are not swimming will be doing Indoor PE on a Wednesday.

Outdoor PE

Both classes will be doing outdoor football on a Friday.

 Project - Romans

This half term we will be learning to:
  • ​Compare the geography of Britain and Italy
  • Name the Roman gods
  • Explain the importance of Julius Ceasar

To support your child at home you could:
  • Visit the Roman Villa at Bancroft
  • Visit the Piddington Roman museum

Writing

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Write character and setting descriptions
  • Write invitations
  • Write a short warning tale using suspense 
  • Identify word types and be able to use them with purpose

Maths

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Work out the length of an object

  • Code a simple game using Scratch
  • Use decomposition to solve a coding problem

To support your child at home you could:

Science

This half term we will be learning to:​​
  • Label key organs found in the digestive system and describe each of their functions.
  • Describe the functions of the four different types of adult, human teeth, using key vocabulary.
  • Know that good dental care involves brushing their teeth twice a day with toothpaste and a soft toothbrush.
  • Produce a food chain that begins with a plant and has arrows that move up the food chain.
  • Define a producer, predator and prey and identify examples in food chains​.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning

To support your child at home you could:
  • ​​Talk about dental hygiene.
  • Go on a nature walk and spot different predators and prey.
  • Look for 'poo clues' in your local area - what does the droppings of animals tell us about their diet?

Design Technology


 This half term we will be learning to:​
  • Work independently to produce an accurate, functioning car chassis.
  • Design a shape that is suitable for the project.
  • Attempt to reduce air resistance through the design of the shape.
  • Produce panels that will fit the chassis and can be assembled effectively using the tabs they have designed.
  • Construct car bodies effectively.
  • Conduct a trial accurately and draw conclusions and improvements from the results.

Suggested Activities to Support Learning


To support your child at home you could:
  • Create your own slingshot car at home.
  • Look at other elastic mechanisms that you could make.
  • Practise rolling toy cars down a ramp - does the shape affect the speed?

Music

This half term we will be learning to: 
  • Use our local area to compose our own piece of music 'Soundscape'
  • Create melodic and rhythmic phrases and combine them using the pentatonic scale/drone/ostinato
  • Organise sounds into simple structures (AB/ABA)
  • Layer, combine, select timbre duration and pitch of sound
  • Create and notate melodic questions and answer phrases and combine them with drones/ostinati
  • Explore sounds within a scale or restricted set of notes e.g. BAG or CEG or DEGAB with the addition of some accidentals
  • Improvise rhythmic patterns more confidently with use of more time values and rests and  some syncopation
  • Suggest ways in which music might be improved by referring to pitch, pace and dynamics plus the selection of sounds (timbre), their combination (texture) and their organisation (structure)

To support your child at home you could:
  • Talk about what songs are special to them and why
  • Make your own musical instruments from items around the home
  • Have a go at creating some of your own 'sound effects'
  • Go for a walk in your local area and listen to the sounds around you and create your own picture to show your 'soundscape'

PE

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
 
Indoor PE:  Swimming
Some children will still be going to swimming each week.
This half term we will be learning to:
  • ​Feel confident in the water
  • Learn how to keep ourselves safe near water
  • Begin to learn/refine: Frontcrawl, Back crawl and Breastroke to swim a distance in the pool
Indoor PE: Dance
Some children will be taking part in dance instead of swimming. We will be learning to:
  • Work with a partner.
  • Plan a choreographed dance.
  • Put dance moves together to create a sequence.
  • Dance with a rhythm to music.

​Outdoor PE: Football 
This half term we will be learning to:
  • Pass a ball between three people
  • Use tackles to intercept a football
  • Play small matches following the correct rules

  • Have a look at  famous footballers

PSHE

  • Discuss what makes them unique and special - do they have any particular talents?
  • Discuss the term 'different'. What does it mean to be 'different'? How might people in our society be different?
This half term we will be learning to celebrate difference:

  • know who to ask for help if we are feeling worried about change

RE

This half term we will be learning :

French

 This half term we will be learning to:
  • Present ourselves with our names
  • Say our age in French
  • Count to 20.
  • Ask how someone is, and give an appropriate response back.
  • Ask someone where they live and reply.
Suggested activities to support learning:
  • Watching a video in French with subtitles on to see common words and their spellings
  • Orally rehearse simple sentences in French
