 Project - Our Heroes- The NHS

This half term we will be:
  • Learning about everyday heroes, with a focus on the NHS staff as well as other key figures involved with medicine.
  • Investigating what a primary source is and what primary sources we have available to us.
  • Looking at why and when the NHS was formed.

  • Discuss what the NHS has done for your family and friends.

  • Write our own fact file.
  • Use headings, subheadings and technical language.
  • Use capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks with accuracy.

  • Talk about how the internet can be fun and used for good but must be treated with respect to avoid problems and remain safe. 
  • Discuss why it is important to debug programmes.

Science - Animals including humans

  • Sorting animals based on diet, habitat and features.
  • Looking at the different habitats of animals and how they meet their needs.
  • Discussing how animals grow.

Art and Design

  • Develop our printing skills.
  • Make relief prints using card and string.

To support your child at home you could:
  • Create a colour wheel. Discuss primary and secondary colours. 
  • Try printing with objects at home such as fruit and vegetables. 
  • Explore natural printing with leaves and petals. 

Music

  • Create and play a pattern by clapping.
  • Use graphic notation to mark down ideas in a sequence, in a pattern or in a combination of sounds.
  • Play the chime bars.

To support your child at home you could:
  • Listen to a piece of music and discuss the pitch and tempo.
  • Create a piece of music using your hands, making notations down in the process. 

PE

This half term we will be learning to:
  • Dance (Indoor PE) - Gymnastics.
  • Catch and Throw (when weather permits).
NB: Please ensure that children have a full PE kit in school at all times. Please also ensure that the children have appropriate clothing in case of cold or inclement weather. If you are unsure or have any questions please feel free to ask a member of the year 2 team.

  • Discuss the benefits of physical exercise and the effect that it has on our bodies.
  • Practise making as many different shapes as you can.

  • Talk about our differences but why we value them.

RE - Christianity

  • Come up with ways you can help the world and other people as a family.
