Project - Ancient Egypt

We will be learning about:​
  • ​The achievements of the earliest civilizations.
  • Ancient Egypt in depth.
  • Howard Carter: who he was and what he discovered.
  • The artefacts found in Tutankhamun's tomb and what they tell us about his life and death.
  • what may have caused Tutankhamun's death.
  • the length of the time of the Ancient Egyptians from about 3100BC to 332 BC

  • learn about an Ancient Egyptian God or Goddess.
  • Look at where Egypt is found on maps and a globe.
  • Look at the course of the river Nile and how it supports all the people in Egypt.

Writing

  • Write a traditional tale
  • Use paragraphs.
  • Use fronted adverbials for time and place
  • Use subordinate conjunctions to add more detail to our sentences.
  • Use preposition for where, when and how.
  • Accurately self and peer assess a piece of writing identifying corrections and opportunities to improve sentences.

  • Estimate using knowledge of number.
  • Check answers using inverse operation method.
  • Multiply using repeated addition, equal groups and arrays.
  • 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

  • Go on Doodle Maths daily to keep up streaks and earn stars to make your own Robot. Please let your child do this independently as this program uses algarythms to ensure the correct levels are being accessed.
  • ​Use Times Tables Rockstars to practise times tables​.
  • Go on Top Marks Maths games and play lots of number games.

Computing

  • Desktop publish our own work using suitable software.
  • Layout published pieces for newspapers and magazines

To support your child at home you could:
  • Encourage them to play Times Table Rockstars.
  • Test your coding on Hour of Code.
  • Encourage them to play Spelling Frame.
  • Look at and talk about newspaper layouts.
  • Look at and talk about magazine layouts.
  • Create a page of information using cut out pieces of pictures and text and change the layout manually to choose a preferred layout.

Science

This half term we will be learning all about Light. We will be learning :
  • how light travels.
  • that we need light to see.
  • the different materials let different amounts of light through.
  • how shadows are made.

To support your child at home you could allow your child to:
  •  make shadows using a torch or light.
  • make a shadow puppet.
  • look at shadows during different times of the day.

Music

  • sing in round and canon
  • sing songs in parts
  • perform songs confidently with others

  • Listen to different pieces of sung music and see if you can hear any different parts or voices 
  • Sing songs together in the car or around the house
  • Try singing a song in a round starting at different times.

PE

PE days are Wednesday and Friday for Year 3.

This half term we will be:
Indoor - Gymnastics (hand apparatus): 
  • Use a hand apparatus on different levels.
  • Create a short movement phrase linking gymnastic actions involving hand apparatus.
  • Change speed and direction during a short movement phrase while using hand apparatus.
Outdoor - Striking, fielding, catching, throwing, and rolling:
  • Suggest what needs to be practised to improve the throwing techniques.
  • Describe what they and others do that is successful in fielding.
  • Hold the bat correctly and strike the ball successfully.
  • Set up small-sided games and score runs.
  • Know rules and use them fairly to keep games going.
  • Use a range of skills e.g. throwing, striking, intercepting​ & stopping the ball with some control and accuracy. 
  • Vary skills and tactics to suit the game.
Please ensure children have appropriate clothing in case of cold weather such as jumpers and jogging bottoms. Children will be wearing PE kit on PE days for the whole day so these must be suitable for the weather.

  • ​Discuss the benefits that physical activity has on our over all health and wellbeing.

PSHE - Dreams and Goals

  • Respect and admire people who overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams and goals (e.g. through disability).
  • Imagine how I will feel when I achieve my dream/ambition.
  • Break down a goal into a number of steps and know how others could help me to achieve it.
  • Know that I am responsible for my own learning and can use my strengths as a learner to achieve the challenge.
  • Manage the feelings of frustration that may arise when obstacles occur.
  • Share my success with others.​

RE - Christianity-Mircles

  • Retell stories about Jesus healing someone.
  • Identify some questions people ask about Jesus’ healing miracles.
  • Explain what people think of as miracles.
  • Explain one Christian viewpoint about one of Jesus’ healing miracles.
  • Compare stories about Jesus’ miracles.
